The Leonardo Bonucci chapter at Union Berlin is apparently over again. The defender is said to have agreed to terminate his contract with the Bundesliga club and move abroad.
Ciao, Leonardo. After only half a year in Berlin, the Italian European champion Leonardo Bonucci is leaving 1. FC Union again.
As transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday evening, an agreement had been reached to terminate the contract with Union Berlin. The 36-year-old is moving to Fenerbahçe Istanbul on a free transfer. He should sign a contract there until the end of the season.
According to Romano, Bonucci will travel to Istanbul this Wednesday. The transfer window in Turkey does not open until January 11th, then the deal should be finalized.
Bonucci was missing from Union Berlin training
Bonucci had already missed the Berliners’ first training session before the away game at SC Freiburg next Saturday for personal reasons.
The veteran was unable to earn a regular place with the Köpenickers. Only ten competitive appearances are recorded. The Italian was one of the transfer flops of the Bundesliga season and has been sitting on the bench recently, so he looked intensively for a new job.
A move from Bonucci to AS Roma in Italy had fallen through in the past few days. The veteran was unable to agree on the financial details of his contract with those responsible at the Romans, reported “Tuttomercatoweb.com”.
Mourinho was apparently not convinced by Bonucci
Coach José Mourinho is also said to have ultimately no longer been convinced by the old master and is now looking for a different profile for his defensive department.
Bonucci moved to Union Berlin on a free transfer in September after Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri sorted out the 36-year-old. His contract in Berlin ran until the end of the season.
