“Aim for Loan”
FC Union has big plans with homegrown Laurenz Dehl, who the “Iron” want to retrain from an offensive to a defensive player. The contract with the Berliner, which was previously only valid until the summer, was extended. The club did not announce how long the 20-year-old would be tied, but revealed that Dehl should be loaned out again.
With Wirtz & Schlotterbeck: Most valuable homegrown talent per Bundesliga club
“We are very pleased about Laurenz’s contract extension, as we want to train him in the right-back position in the future. He’s been showing since the beginning of the season that he really has a lot of talent there and we’ll see him there in the foreseeable future,” commented Union Managing Director Oliver Ruhnert. “Since it is important for him to gain match practice and more experience, we are aiming for a loan for the coming season.” Dehl left Köpenicker for a one-year loan to Hallesches FC in the summer of 2020.
Dehl has not yet made a lengthy appearance for the Union first team, recording the first few minutes in the Conference League game against Kuopion Palloseura. In Halle, in 23 competitive games (3 goals, 4 assists), his offensive qualities were still primarily in demand. The future in Berlin will lie on the defensive. Dehl said: “I’ve been at Union and grew up with the club for over ten years now. It’s my club and I feel absolutely comfortable here. So it was logical for me to extend my contract.”
Nice that you are staying with us, Laurenz! Keep it up!#fcunion https://t.co/4IUagN89cx
