Unicorns of Love: Sexy Edition has defended the Prime League championship title. After the summer playoffs in 2022, it is the second title for the Cologne organization in the German-speaking League of Legends league.
“I’m happy,” MVP of the season Lee “Peach” Min-gyu said onstage after being presented with the MVP trophy.
“We have a really great squad, everyone worked so hard,” said Unicorns trainer Fabian “Sheepy” Mallant after the confetti rain on stage. “SK really didn’t make it easy for us and fought heart and soul.”
Prime League: Strong fan support in the offline final
Praise also went to the audience, who still wore Sheepy after the finale. “There was a real atmosphere!”
A good 100 fans came to the Xperion arena in Berlin, cheering on both teams loudly. Singing like “SK is second today” or “Let’s go, SK, fight and win” rang out in front of the stage. A few people wearing shirts from Eintracht Spandau, NNO and Eintracht Frankfurt also mingled with the audience.
Tight third game in the Prime League final
After first UoL and then SK each won a game, things got particularly exciting in the third match of the best-of-five series. After the Unicorns had already penetrated the base of the Cologne team, SK came back into the match after a solid team fight at the Baron. SK also knocked on the opposing base, but then botched two teamfights and had to give up the Nexus without resistance.
In the fourth game, SK got back on track, dominated the map for long stretches and equalized again. So the series went the full distance of five games, traditionally the song “Silver Scrapes” was recorded during the break.
However, the fifth game was as clear as the fourth. Unicorns of Love started strong, won decisive battles and got important reinforcements. The Hamburgers confidently implemented the advantage in defending their title.
EMEA Masters as the next step
Even before the final, it was clear that both teams would then play at European level. UoL and SK move on to the newly formatted EMEA Masters and fight there against the strongest teams, especially from the other European leagues.
