Undercover agent Brabant also involved in secret investigation into healthcare fraud | Inland

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) confirmed this in the Rotterdam court on Tuesday afternoon during a preparatory session against six suspects who, according to the justice system, have forfeited more than thirteen million euros by committing healthcare fraud. The six, all from the Turkish community, earned their millions with false home care claims, defrauding health insurers VGZ, Zorg en Zekerheid and Zilveren Kruis.

The suspects were arrested in June last year. Several disappeared behind bars for weeks in pre-trial detention.

According to the suspects, they were approached by the undercover officer well before their arrest with the story that he wanted to put money into their healthcare company. “During a dinner at the Amsterdam Harbor Club he wanted to present us his plan. He then pulled up in a Maserati and told us that he wanted to invest ten million euros in our company for the construction of a care home. Ten million, in cash. We did not respond to it,” a suspect told the court on Tuesday.

Arne Kloosterman, lawyer for suspect Mert D., sees reason to further investigate the undercover agent’s infiltration attempt at the healthcare company. Kloosterman: „In the drug case in Brabant, the necessary questions have arisen about the deployment of this policeman. It therefore seems desirable to me to review his involvement in this research.”

The criminal case against the six suspects will continue later this year.
