Undercover actions in the city center of Amsterdam resulted in 619 area bans and 28,000 euros

Last year, the police deployed plainclothes officers 33 times in the city center of Amsterdam to tackle drug dealers and pickpockets. A total of hundreds of area bans were imposed.

In a message at Instagram the police team at the station on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal will list the results today. 760 cases were started. The exact number of arrests is not clear, but it involved 629 arrests and detentions (someone who is stopped does not have to go to the station, but only has to show their ID).

Crushed paracetamol

619 24-hour area bans were also imposed. For example, these area bans were issued to dealers who pretended to deal in cocaine, but in fact sold crushed paracetamol. They have been a major problem for years, especially in the Red Light District are difficult to tackle criminally. More than 28,000 euros were also seized by the police.

The actions are known to the police as Team Bert. The immigration police are also cooperating, as some of the suspects consist of illegal aliens from Morocco or Algeria. Furthermore, the Public Prosecution Service is always present.

Surprise

“The fact that Team Bert is needed is evident from those figures!”, the police wrote. “That’s why we’re going to continue again this year! When? That’s always a surprise for the outside world, but we will of course share the results with you again.”
