Nance Coolen has the idea that the experts of Shownieuws are all on John de Mol’s leash. “The juice channels can yell and say what they want,” she sneezes.
John de Mol has done it very well. He has put the editors-in-chief of all three major gossip magazines under contract with Shownieuws: Private boss Evert Sankrediets, Story boss Guido den Aantrekker and Weekend boss Bart Ettekoven. You will therefore not easily read anything critical about Talpa and the associated star stable in their magazines.
Nance critical
The problem is that the new generation of gossips, such as Yvonne Coldeweijer, Juice Channel and Gossip Talk, do not allow themselves to be dictated to by John. And that’s why their news is currently in great demand. In fact, they have more firsts these days than all the regular show media put together.
Not so strange, thinks Nance Coolen. The TV presenter tells in the podcast Off the Record: “At Shownieuws, just three editors-in-chief of the largest gossip magazines in the Netherlands are under the hat of Talpa. And they will never ever just be critical or bring a nice scoop. And a Yvonne with her juice channel can now.”
What does Henkjan think?
Henkjan Smits thinks that the juice channels are the gossip magazines of the modern age. “You used to have gossip magazines that ran really well. Then RTL Boulevard and SBS Shownieuws came and they actually took all the scoops away from the tabloids because it was daily. The tabloids could only exist for one reason: the photos.”
“And now those juice channels are even faster than RTL Boulevard and SBS Shownieuws put together and they don’t really care. They check the facts much less, so just bring the scoops. (…) Those juice channels are now competing with the TV shows again, I think.”
Under John’s hat
Nance agrees. “Certainly, because they can shout and say what they want and those three editors-in-chief cannot. They don’t do that anymore, because they fall under John’s hat.”
Incidentally, Nance is not a fan of all juice channels. “To be honest, I think Gossip Talk is going a bit too far. During the week things were said again that I think: that is not possible, that is not possible.”
