Unchained shot putter Jessica Schilder joins world top with new record

A week after Jessica Schilder broke the Dutch record shot put after 24 years from the books, it’s hit again. The 22-year-old shot putter from Volendam did a world throw of 19 meters and 72 centimeters in Apeldoorn this afternoon, thus again improving the Dutch record.

Jessica Schilder and Benthe König competed against each other in a specially arranged limit match in Omnisport in Apeldoorn. In the first attempt, the record was already broken with a distance of 19.48 meters. In the second shot, Schilder took it even further and reached 19.72 meters.

With this performance, Schilder currently records the season’s best distance. No one worldwide has bumped further than 19.72 meters this season. Indoor, Schilder’s throw is the furthest worldwide in six years.

Next week, Schilder hopes to extend the Dutch indoor shot put title. In 2020 and 2021 she already became Dutch champion. At the end of March, Schilder also takes part in the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade (Serbia).
