Uncertainty about F1 race in Zandvoort after 2025: “Talks not yet started”

It is uncertain whether the Dutch Grand Prix will also be held after 2025. During the press conference leading up to the Formula 1 weekend at the end of August, it became clear that there are no talks yet. There is also no question of a possible exchange system with the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

According to circuit director Robert van Overdijk, Zandvoort has shown that it is a unique event. “But it is not up to us. Organizer FOM (ed. Formula One Management) has indicated that it wants fewer races in Europe. So it is not a matter of course that we will be on the calendar after 2025. But if that happens, in what form is that then? We will talk about that.”

No variation with circuit Belgium

There were rumors that Zandvoort may alternate annually with the Grand Prix of Belgium in the future. But that refers sports director Jan Lammers to the realm of fables. “I don’t know where that comes from. Not with us anyway, and they don’t know anything in Belgium either. So we don’t have to talk about that.”

The upcoming edition, from 25 to 27 August, is expected to attract 105,000 people every day. And although the past two years have gone exceptionally well, the organization still sees room for improvement.

It is hoped that even fewer people will come to the circuit by car this year. Last year it was 3 percent, and then mainly people from the international F1 organization, the teams and media. “We have asked the teams to make less use of the car,” said Van Overdijk.

Safety precautions

Another point is security. For example, several women were harassed last year. There will be physical hotlines with confidential advisers and also a Whatsapp number to send messages to.

“If you’re going to something you love, make sure you contribute to an event or sport. And don’t make us feel ashamed of your behaviour. If families come, other visitors, they need to feel comfortable Lammers says.
