Liverpool led 2-0 after just 6 minutes, thanks to goals from Luis Díaz and Harvey Elliott. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino (2x), Fabio Carvalho and again Díaz were accurate for the home team. Van Dijk also scored at Anfield. Just before half-time, the captain of Orange took the 5-0 for his account by heading from a corner from Andrew Robertson. Chris Mepham worked the ball into his own goal on behalf of the team of former Feyenoord player Marcos Senesi, who played the entire game.
Manchester City recorded a difficult victory over Crystal Palace. After trailing 2-0 after 21 minutes it became 4-2. Erling Haaland was of great value for City with three goals. He made his hat-trick in the space of 20 minutes. Palace had a margin of two goals until the 53rd minute.
