Unapproachable Ajax Women also too strong for PSV, VV Alkmaar beats Telstar

So far it’s going great at Ajax Women. The team from Amsterdam are still undefeated and also won 1-0 against PSV this afternoon. That was the eighth win in a row in the women’s premier league. The North Holland get-together between Telstar Women and VV Alkmaar ended in 1-0 for the Alkmaarders.

From the first moment, Ajax Women had the upper hand. Tiny Hoekstra, who stood out with important goals in recent weeks, had the greatest chance. She shot from a volley at the post. Romée Leuchter tapped in the rebound, but she was offside. Earlier shot attempts were blocked by PSV goalie Lisan Alkemade.

Leuchter opened the score fairly quickly in the second half. She shot a free kick from about twenty meters: 1-0. That was her ninth league goal of the season. In the counter-punch, Joëlle Smits became even more dangerous, but her shot ended up in the side net. The game was then played out simply.

The Ajax Women will play against title candidate FC Twente next week. Just like the team from Amsterdam, Twente is still without a loss of points.

With the victory, the women of VV Alkmaar distance themselves from last place. They will play against Fortuna Sittard next week. PEC Zwolle is the next opponent of Telstar Women.
