Soccer world champion Enzo Fernández has to prepare for trouble at Benfica Lisbon.
As coach Roger Schmidt of the Portuguese Champions League round of 16 said, the Argentine was recently in his home country without permission from his employer.
“He missed training, that will have consequences, but I won’t name them now,” said Schmidt and also commented on the shooting star’s whereabouts in the world champion’s team at Benfica.
Chelsea want to sign Fernández, but his contract in Lisbon is valid until mid-2027. He only moved to Europe from River Plate in Buenos Aires last year. According to reports, the exit clause is said to be 120 million euros and Chelsea are very interested in the Premier League.
“We don’t want to sell him”
Such a situation can confuse a young player a bit, said Schmidt and made it clear: “We don’t want to sell him. I don’t, the president doesn’t – nobody.”
They tried to lure Fernández, knowing that they could only get him if they paid the transfer fee, Schmidt stressed. The offer is said to have been well below that. “This club disregards us all,” said the 55-year-old in the direction of the Englishman: “It’s not acceptable.”
