UN human rights chief concerned about conviction of prominent human rights lawyers in China

UN human rights chief Volker Türk said on Monday he is “deeply concerned” that China has sentenced two prominent human rights lawyers to more than a decade in prison. Xu Zhiyong and fellow activist Ding Jiaxi were sentenced to 14 and 12 years in prison respectively after closed-door trials. They were charged with undermining the rule of law, according to family members.
