Ultra runner Karel Sabbe is back home
The Barkley Marathons, which are 5 loops of 32 kilometers with many height differences over rough terrain. Karel Sabbe was the 17th ever to finish this race. It was therefore a real wear and tear for the ultra runner from Waregem. The fourth loop proved to be the hardest to bite through, after which mental exhaustion hit mercilessly in the final round.
Physically and mentally recovered
It is therefore no surprise that Sabbe still has to recover from this effort. “I just got back from the airport. I had a bad night on the plane and the first night after the game is not normal either. I am still recovering physically and mentally,” says Karel Sabbe.
Closed chapter
In addition to fatigue, the Waregem native is also proud: “I am very happy that I can close this chapter. I have no ambition to become a double finisher either. I have received everything that race has to offer. I think it is fantastic to close the chapter.” Karel will therefore go back to work in his dental practice tomorrow.
