Ultra runner Karel Sabbe after an amazing performance: “Never experienced it mentally. Hallucinated for twelve hours straight, slept zero comma zero”
“Losing the way, that wasn’t too bad. But that last loop, I’ve never experienced that mentally. I didn’t remember what I was doing, I didn’t know what Barkley Marathons were. I just remembered: go to that book, take your page and move on. Towards the end, as I walked faster and faster, the adrenaline made my brain come back. Then I started to realize that I could still do it. And I started to realize again what I I lost everything that entire last run,” says Karel Sabbe.
“Hallucinated for twelve hours straight. Heard sounds, heard music. Hear people talking… Nothing slept either. Zero comma zero. And then at the same time, with that extreme effort, that fatigue is so extreme. through me.”
