You don’t have to go far for a delicious wine tasting, because Wijngaard Bilderhof near Dordrecht is only 53.1 kilometers away from Zoetermeer. It takes an hour and five minutes by car. A lot closer than the vineyards in the Moselle or Burgundy!
Also nearby is Vineyard Zonnestraal in Loosdrecht. That vineyard is 69.4 kilometers from our city. By car you are on the road for about 53 minutes.
To impress your partner when you stroll through a Dutch vineyard soon, here are some facts about Dutch wine:
- Grapes have been grown in the Netherlands to make wine since the 1970s.
- The Netherlands has about 275 hectares of vineyards. For comparison: in the French region of Bordeaux alone you will find 120,000 hectares of vineyards.
- In 2022, a total of 9,837 hectoliters of wine will have been produced. That is 1,311,660 normal size wine bottles (0.75 cl).
- Almost three-quarters of that number concerns white wine, the rest rosé or red wine.
- Most winegrowers can be found in Gelderland, but most hectares of vineyards can be found in Limburg.
- There are two quality marks for Dutch wine, the most important of which is the BOB. This stands for Protected Area of Origin. So far there are six of these: Ambt Delden (Overijssel), Achterhoek Winterswijk (Gelderland), Maasvallei Limburg, Mergelland (Limburg), Oolde (Gelderland) and Vijlen (Limburg).
