Ulm ends series of bankruptcies in the EuroCup

The losing streak of German basketball champions ratiopharm Ulm in the EuroCup is over. At Buducnost Podgorica, Ulm prevented their fifth defeat in a row by winning 84:80 (72:72, 38:30) after extra time and is now on the verge of reaching the round of 16.

After a balanced opening quarter, Ulm, led by top scorer LJ Figueroa, who was the best scorer of the game with 24 points, took the upper hand in the second period. In the final quarter, however, the Montenegrins came back and erased a 14-point deficit within a few minutes.

In the final phase it went back and forth. With the score at 72:72, Ulm’s Karim Hallow committed an offensive foul with 13 seconds left, while Kenan Kamenjas missed the chance for the buzzer beater on the other side. In overtime, the third-place team in the Bundesliga had better nerves.

With nine wins and seven defeats, Ulm is in fourth place in Group B. With two games left to play, progress is just a formality. A victory for Ulm or a defeat for one of the three competitors is enough. Direct qualification for the quarter-finals via one of the first two places is no longer possible.
