Ukrainians in Coevorden are moving to two other locations

The Ukrainian refugees who are currently staying in a reception center in the Coevorden district of Ossehaar are moving. The group, consisting of more than sixty people, will be transferred to residential facility In de Goorn and holiday park De Wolfskuylen near Gees in October and November. Ukrainians are currently also being cared for at the latter location.

The municipality of Coevorden does not want to slow down housing construction in Ossehaar and is therefore closing the reception location in Ossehaar. This happens well before the expiry of the environmental permit, which initially applied for a period of five years.

The arrival of the Ukrainians last year provoked resistance from some of the residents. They thought the possible duration of five years in particular was too long at the time. In April, the municipality organized a presentation of the construction plan for this location. In total there would be space for 100 homes.

The new reception locations will be prepared for reception in the near future. Residents have been notified of the upcoming move by letter. Because the residential facility on the Commissioner Gaarlandtlaan is a new location, the municipality will hold walk-in meetings on 20 July and 13 September in Ravelijn Connects.

According to the municipality, the reception in the municipality is going well. This is partly thanks to the efforts of volunteers and local residents. Many refugees are learning Dutch, according to the municipality. The children go to school, while many adults work.
