Ukrainian refugees move into Waregem
Waregem has ten homes available in addition to a number of transition houses for crisis relief. The Ukrainian sisters are between 16 and 25 years old, the boy is five and the daughter is three.
“We laugh for our children”
Their daddy is still Ukraine to defend the country, only they have no idea where. “We lost everything we had at home because of the war. We laugh for our children, but we really miss our home,” says Tatiana Lishchiner.
It is the ships of Welfare that assist them in their arrival. “They can’t speak English, so communication goes through a translation app. They also have to register themselves officially, because they came here through an acquaintance in Waregem,” says Joos Kerkhove.
