Twelve hairdressers from Maastricht started a haircut for Ukrainian refugees on Monday. In Maastricht’s Heer district, dozens of people received a free haircut, wash or paint job.
The initiative comes from three Maastricht hairdressers: Eric Craft, Raf Hogeboom and Ralph Janssen. They thought it was time to take action themselves, so they put their heads together and found nine colleagues willing to participate. As a result, Ukrainian refugees will be able to report for a free haircut every Monday for the next few weeks.
Cut, wash and water waves
Once inside, the Ukrainians use a translation app and an interpreter to indicate what their desired cut looks like. Neither expense nor effort is spared to cut the refugees. For example, they are picked up at home in a van and returned afterwards.
license
Initially, the hairdressers were supposed to cut their hair at a central point in the Wyck district, but that plan fell through due to a license application submitted too late. The alternative is now to work in a different hair salon every Monday. This will take place on Monday in a hairdressing salon on Dorpsweg in the Heer district.
