Ukrainian refugees commemorate the invasion of their country on the market in Bruges

200 Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Bruges last year paid tribute to the victims of the war, often including fallen relatives. Ophelia: “When the war started we were all scared and in shock. We couldn’t even believe it. How is it possible in the twentieth century that someone invades and kills civilians and children and the elderly.”

But despite the pain, there was also a lot of courage in Bruges today. Bruges has now become their second home for many refugees. Svïltana Misina: “Thank you city of Bruges. Our Ukrainian flag has been flying here since the first day of the war. We have a lot of support here.”
