Ukraine’s defenses hold up according to Zelensky
Ukraine’s defenses are holding up well against the Russian army, President Volodimir Zelensky said. The planned invasion of Russia over the ground has therefore been considerably delayed, according to the president.
Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities continues unabated, Zelensky said. He says this is a change of tactics by Russia after Ukraine’s land forces turned out to be stiffer than expected.
“Our people have nothing to lose except freedom,” the president said on Thursday. Foreign Minister Dmitro Koeleba called it a “war of the people of Ukraine” on Twitter. He shared a photo with thousands of people blocking a road. “In this photo, people in Enerhodar are holding back Russian troops.” According to Koeleba, this is happening all over the country.
The minister called on allies to close airspace over Ukraine. For example, Russia can no longer carry out bombing raids on Ukrainian cities.
