Future of Neres & Co. open
The special transfer window for foreign professionals in Russia and Ukraine, opened by FIFA as a result of the Russian war of aggression, has closed. This gave the professionals the opportunity to suspend their contracts with the clubs in the two Premier Leagues until June 30 and switch to another club or be permanently transferred to a country where their own window is still open – such as Brazil. Unless announced after the deadline, this was used by 93 first division players, 28 from the Russian upper house and 65 from the Ukrainian upper house.

The most valuable of these players are Brazilian Tetê (22), on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk to Olympique Lyon, where he scored directly in his Ligue 1 debut against Angers (3-2), and Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The 21-year-old left the Russian first division club Rubin Kazan and moved to his home country Dinamo Batumi until the end of the season. Meanwhile, the goal of the winger for the coming season should already be clear: According to corresponding Italian media reports, Kvaratskhelia will switch to SSC Napoli in the summer, where he will sign until 2027 and cost around 10 million euros. It is not known how this fee will flow with regard to the SWIFT exclusion of many Russian banks. The confirmation is pending.

The preferred destination was Poland (13 loans), followed by Brazil (11), the country to which many homegrown players have returned – most recently centre-back Vitão (22), who joined SC Internacional Porto Alegre from Shakhtar. Also on Friday, the traditional Swiss club FC Zurich announced the loan of the Ukrainian striker Bogdan Vyunnyk (19). Meanwhile, not all players switched to actually play at profile level, but partly also to keep fit in training: The DFB and DFL, for example, did not open a special transfer window, but allowed players from Russia and Ukraine to train with German clubs.
Overview: These players left the Premier League of Russia / this one the Premier League of Ukraine
Others, on the other hand, did not use the transfer window for various reasons or were not yet introduced to their new clubs: In Russia, for example, the season is continuing, Malcom (25), Claudinho (25) and Co. are still in action for leaders Zenit St. Petersburg. It will be impossible to play in the Ukraine for the foreseeable future – it is unclear how things will continue with players like David Neres (25), Dodô (23) and Manor Solomon (22). Transfers to Brazil, where the 2022 season of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A starts this weekend, are still possible until next Tuesday, April 12.
