According to regional authorities, southern Ukraine was hit by “massive” Russian bombing on Tuesday morning. It would be the coastal town of Zatoka, south of Odesa. The port city of Mykolaiv is also said to have been hit.
Rockets would have hit the infrastructure in the port city, among other things. Mykolaiv is close to the front line in southern Ukraine. As a result, the city is often hit by Russian shelling.
Eight Ukrainian missile and artillery weapons depots in Donetsk and Mykolaiv have also been destroyed, Ukraine’s defense ministry said. There have been no casualties.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier in the day posted a video on social media of destroyed buildings in Zatoka, a popular Black Sea resort. He added that Zakota is an ordinary village. “No bases, no troops. The Russian terrorists just wanted to shoot.”
According to the Ukrainian army, the Russian missiles come from planes flying over the Black Sea. The attacks on the coast come just days after Russia and Ukraine struck a deal to export grain through the Black Sea.
On Saturday, the Russians shelled the port of Odesa. Many international leaders and organizations reacted furiously to that attack. They feared that the grain deal would be in jeopardy. Ukraine hopes to resume grain shipments this week.
