Ukraine refugees: Volunteers at the end of their strength

The Ukraine war has set in motion the largest refugee movement since the end of the Second World War. According to the UN Refugee Commission, there have been 10.6 million border crossings from Ukraine to other countries since February 24. In addition, there are 6.6 million internally displaced persons who have fled from the embattled east to the west of Ukraine. In addition to Poland, Hungary, Romania and other European countries, Germany has also taken in many refugees.

As of July 16, 909,740 people from Ukraine were registered in the German Central Register of Foreigners. However, it is difficult to determine how many refugees from Ukraine have actually entered Germany and possibly already left again. There is currently no visa requirement for Ukrainian citizens in the EU. (Source: ZDF, UNHCR)
