Ukraine: possible emergency village in Bekaert factory in Ingelmunster
In order to receive all refugees, the government wants to set up 15 to 20 villages with 250 housing units. It is not yet clear where they will be. Municipalities and cities have until today to submit proposals. But now the company Bekaert from Zwevegem has come up with a proposal. The factory in Ingelmunster has been empty for two years.
Mayor Kurt Windels is enthusiastic, but he expects support from the Midwest emergency zone, including administrative, logistical and psychosocial support. A site visit to the site is planned this week.
It is not yet certain whether the emergency village will actually be built. That depends on the situation in Ukraine, but also on the decision of the Flemish government.
