The Ukrainian authorities asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for emergency funding in connection with the Russian military operation in the country, says in a statement by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
“We are exploring all options for further financial support [Украины]including under an existing $2.2 billion standby agreement. [Украины] asked the IMF for emergency funding,” said Georgieva.
According to her, the fund has several tools to help Kiev, which will be discussed “as the situation develops.”
“Our staff will continue to work closely with the authorities to support Ukraine in every possible way. We will also continue to work hand in hand with the World Bank Group and other partners to coordinate our support and ensure maximum benefit for Ukraine,” the head of the IMF added.
