They were already used during the Second World War, but even today inflatable fake targets are still an efficient trick to deceive the other party in a war. For example, the Czech company Inflatech supplies inflatable HIMARS missile launchers to Ukraine, which are regarded as real by the Russian army and on which the Russians therefore fire their expensive missiles.
