UK: ‘Real chance that Russia is losing momentum in Bachmoet’

There is a “real chance” that Russia’s attack on the Ukrainian city of Bachmut is weakening. The British Ministry of Defense reports this on Wednesday via Twitter. The “loss of momentum” is caused, among other things, by the relocation of a number of Russian military units to other locations, the ministry said.

In Bachmut, in eastern Ukraine, fierce fighting has been raging for months. The east and southeast of the city are controlled by Russia. The battle resulted in many casualties on the Ukrainian side, which has led to discussion within and outside Ukraine as to whether it is still wise to continue to defend the city. President Volodymyr Zelensky also said he would not defend Bachmut “at all costs”.

The intelligence update from the United Kingdom does not describe in more detail what Russia’s “loss of momentum” in Bachmoet means exactly. Fighting continues in the center of the city, and Ukrainian defenses remain vulnerable to encirclement from the north and south.
