Uithoorn is also concerned about Schiphol experiment with spreading aircraft nuisance

The municipality of Uithoorn wants to prevent the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management from continuing an experiment to spread aircraft noise differently. The municipal council expects more noise from air traffic that departs and lands on the Aalsmeerbaan as a result of the trial. With the experiment, the ministry wants to investigate whether the nuisance can be reduced without harming the economic importance of Schiphol.

Minister Harbers of Infrastructure and Water Management wants to experiment with combining old and new noise regulations in the coming year, in order to achieve a better balance for local residents, Schiphol and the airlines.

Last year, the cabinet decided that the maximum number of flights at Schiphol will be reduced from 500,000 to 440,000 per year. For years, the airport failed to comply with the noise regulations.

According to a spokesman for Harbers, this reduction will be carried out anyway, but at the same time the ministry wants to find out with a so-called experimental scheme whether more flights are possible without increasing nuisance for local residents.

More aircraft noise allowed

The municipality of Uithoorn warns that more aircraft noise will soon be allowed at the Aalsmeerbaan, without Schiphol being held accountable for it. Residents of Uithoorn and Aalsmeer have been complaining for years about the increase in nuisance caused by air traffic on the Aalsmeerbaan.

Uithoorn will submit a view in the coming week, in which they will try to turn the tide. Local residents and other stakeholders are also welcome respond online on the plans for the experiment.
