Uganda takes first steps towards law against homosexuality | Abroad

Homosexuality is illegal in Uganda – a legacy of colonial laws – but there have been no convictions for consensual homosexual acts in the country since independence from the United Kingdom in 1962.

A bill to change this has now been referred to a parliamentary committee. This is the first step in an accelerated procedure to have the bill approved by parliament. Parliament President Annet Anita Among specified that hearings are planned and that sexual minorities will also participate.

It is not yet clear when the vote on the law will take place.
