UEFA Supercup: Real Madrid wins superiorly against Eintracht Frankfurt

Real Madrid won the Supercup in a superior game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Real Madrid won the match between the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Wednesday (08/10/2022) 2-0 (1-0). Eintracht played without Filip Kostic, who is in negotiations with Juventus Turin about a change.

FC Bayern, who lifted the trophy in 2013 and 2020, remains the only German winner of the UEFA Supercup. With their fifth Supercup title, Real catches up with the two record holders FC Barcelona and AC Milan.

Alaba puts Madrid ahead

In the 14th minute, Daichi Kamada had the great opportunity to lead Frankfurt. He shot freely in front of goal but Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Frankfurt initially had to defend themselves against the second goal conceded after the break. Trapp saved a deflected shot from close range by Luka Modric (55′), Casemiro hit the crossbar from 18 meters (61′).

Real raised a little later: Vinicius Junior pulled away on the left, in the center he found Benzema, who put the ball in the goal with a centrally placed shot (65th). In the final phase, Frankfurt was no longer able to catch up, Madrid missed the third goal.

August 25: Champions League draw with Madrid and Frankfurt

Both clubs will play in the Champions League next season. Real Madrid qualified for the group stage of the Champions League as Spanish champions and Eintracht Frankfurt as winners of the Europa League.

However, the two clubs cannot be drawn into one group at the draw on August 25 in Istanbul, as both are in Pot 1.
