UEFA announced that it has launched an investigation due to the incidents that occurred in the match played between Romania and Kosovo in the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024) Qualifiers.
In the statement made by UEFA, it was stated that an investigation was launched against the Romanian Football Federation on the grounds of racist acts during the match, opening banners with provocative messages, throwing foreign objects on the field, lighting fireworks in the stands and not leaving space on the stairs between the stands.
The EURO 2024 Qualifiers Group I match, played on weekdays in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, was stopped in the 20th minute after a banner reading “Kosovo is Serbia” was opened in the Romanian stands and separatist chants. Romania won the match, which restarted after about an hour’s break, 2-0.
