Atlético Madrid lost after penalty shooting in the round of 16 of the Champions League Real Madrid. However, a decision stimulated the club after the defeat.

UEFA confirmed the referee’s decision in the controversial penalty incident in the Champions League round of 16 between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid. As the association explained on Thursday, Julián Álvarez touched the ball minimally with his mainstay in the penalty before he shot it.

“According to the current rule, the VAR (video evidence, editor’s note) had to point out the referee that the gate should not be recognized,” said the UEFA. Nevertheless, the European Football Association announced that they are accepting talks with FIFA and IFAB (International Football Association Board). It should be checked whether the rule should be revised in cases where a double touch was obviously unintentional.

In the game against Real Madrid, Álvarez had an unhappy with his mainstay at the second penalty for Atlético. The hit was therefore revoked. Atlético ultimately lost to Real Madrid 2: 4 in a penalty shootout.
