The final battle reportedly involved large-scale ticket fraud. As a result, the authorities lost control of security around the stadium prior to the game and the game had to be postponed by more than half an hour.

Just over a hundred people were arrested around the duel. 29 of them were arrested in or near the stadium. About half of those persons had British nationality, according to the French authorities. There were no Englishmen among the other arrested persons.

The French sports minister is having a report drawn up about the problems, the ministry said in a statement on Monday. Amélie Oudéa-Castéra has asked Michael Cadot, the inter-ministerial delegate for major sporting events, to produce the report within ten days. Oudea-Castéra previously claimed that the problems were caused by Liverpool fans.

The report will also be used for future major sporting events in France. The Olympic Games will be held in Paris in two years. Real Madrid won the match at the Stade de France 1-0.
