On the first match day of the premier class, FC Bruges rolls over the AS Monaco. DFB young player Nicolò Tresoldi celebrates a special premiere.
FC Bruges started the Champions League with a significant success. The Belgian top club prevailed against the AS Monaco on Thursday evening with 4: 1 (3: 0)-also thanks to the first goal of U21 international Nicolò Tresoldi.
The French could have taken the lead early, but Maghnes Akliouche awarded a penalty (10th). Shortly afterwards, Tresoldi did better: the attacker, switched from second division Hannover 96 to Belgium for six million euros in summer, took the lead in the 32nd minute.
It was the first goal in the first Champions League game for the 21-year-old. So far, Tresoldi had remained without a goal and without a template in six league inserts for his new club. Tresoldi had only met in qualifying for the premier class.
The start of the new club was not “so simple” because second place at the U21 European Championship in summer and was late for preparation, Tresoldi had said a few days ago as part of the U21 international match against Latvia (5: 0). “I’m not at 100 percent yet, but I think I’m on the right track”. He was still sure that the change was “the right decision”. “Now I’m just looking forward to playing Champions League.”
In the game against Monaco, Raphael Onyedika (39th) and captain Hans Vanaken (42nd) clearly set the course for victory for the home side before the break.
After the change of sides, Mamadou Diakhon (75th) increased to 4: 0. For Monaco, which national player Thilo Kehrer changed in the second half, Ansu Fati only scored the honor goal in injury time (90.+1).
For Bruges, on September 30th, an away game at Atalanta Bergamo continues. The German record champion Bayern Munich (October 22) then awaits on the third matchday.
