1976 in Dublin: Paul David Hewson, David Howell Evans, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. found U2. A band that would develop into one of the most successful music groups in music history. Now the four musicians from Ireland are to get a Netflix series.
It is not yet known whether the members of U2 themselves will be involved in the series and there is also no precise information about the plot.
It could be a biopic
It will be produced by JJ Abrams, under the umbrella of his production company Bad Robot. This recently produced action films such as “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” or “Star Trek”. Anthony McCarten, who previously penned the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, wrote the screenplay. This cast allows the assumption that the U2 series could also be a cinematic biography.
Since the series is still in an early stage of development, it is not yet clear when it will be released. On the Irish website Joe.ie It has already been suggested that the producers could aim for completion in 2026 to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.
“Rattle and Hum” reviewed:
There have already been cinematic encounters with the band, for example the Irish comedy film “Killing Bono” or the documentary “From the Sky Down” about the production of the U2 album “Achtung, Baby”. There is also the concert film “Rattle and Hum” from 1988 and other short documentaries. However, there is not yet a large-scale series dealing with the history of the musicians.
But not only cinematic new material from U2 is in store for us, something could also happen musically soon: Last year guitarist The Edge announced that work on new material had already started. Most recently, the Irish released the title “Your Song Saved My Life” for the animated film “Sing 2”.
