Ecuador misses a chance in a long-distance duel

Brazil have secured their 13th South American U17 Championship title. On Sunday evening (local time) the “Seleção” won the long-distance duel against hosts Ecuador. While Brazil narrowly defeated Argentina 3-2 on the fifth and final day of the finals group, Ecuador had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Venezuela.

Brazil leads the final table with 13 points and two points ahead of Ecuador. Argentina and Venezuela (both seven points) also qualified third and fourth for the U17 World Cup at the end of the year. After 2013, this is only Venezuela’s second participation in the World Cup.

The top scorers in the U17 South American Championship were the Brazilians Kauã Elias (17) and Rayan Vitor (16) and Argentinian Claudio Echeverri (17) with five goals each.
