The expected meeting was postponed again.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk still can’t talk about the undisputed heavyweight championship.
The boxing superstars were supposed to face off in February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Then, just two weeks before the fight, Fury got a big tear in the corner of his eye. Elbow hit the head in the middle of sparring.
The new date has been announced as May 18. Now boxing fans are hoping that we will finally see a match where the world championship belts of all the power alliances are at stake.
– I am really disappointed in this. Every time the date is moved forward by a month, it dampens the mood. At the same time, I wonder if we will ever see the match, thinks Iltalehti’s martial arts expert Jaakko Dahlbacka.
Fury and Usyk were supposed to meet at the end of last year, but then Fury decided to jump into the ring Francis Ngannouta against. Maybe the British striker thought it was an easy warm-up for the Usyk match.
It was the other way around. Ngannou really squeezed Fury, even though he lost on points.
Dahlbacka reminds that the Ukrainian boxer Usyk would have been ready for the Fury match for a long time. Its transfer is solely due to Fury.
– Fury says one thing and does another. It does not in any way lift the mood for this match.
– We also have to remember that even the sheikhs of Saudi Arabia, who organize the match, are no longer satisfied. The next cancellation will result in a fine of 10 million.
What does the expert think about Fury’s wound and could it have been dealt with? The Fury–Usyk speculations can be seen in the Kulmamieste episode above.
