In 2016, the ‘hunebed working group’ already started preparations. Robert Dagelet, the person involved, says that all the stones come from Drenthe. “You try to remove them everywhere. Here near the Brink we could store the stones for so long.”
And now a new dolmen adorns the Brink of the village, although it is still surrounded by a pile of sand. The statue will be unveiled on Ascension Day (May 18). According to Dagelet, the hunebed certainly lives among the Tynaarloans. “You didn’t hear anyone about it during corona, but in recent months it has really come to life again.”
In the days after Ascension Day, the 1200th anniversary is still celebrated in style. It starts with a meal for the whole village and the unveiling of the hunebed. There are also activities for young and old.
Westerhof is already looking forward to it: “Finally we can celebrate our party. We are going big!”
