Pharrell Williams enlists a famous friend for his latest capsule for Louis Vuitton.
The Spring 2024 Men’s Capsule was created in collaboration with rapping artist Tyler, the Creator, Louis Vuitton announced on Wednesday. To expand his vision at Louis Vuitton, the men’s creative director invited his longtime friend and collaborator Tyler, The Creator to create a “standalone concept” for the house, according to the release.
“Tyler has been a close friend and collaborator of mine for years, and we have always collaborated through music and design,” said Pharrell Williams, Men’s Creative Director. “There are so many Tyler-specific elements in these pieces and it was inspiring to see how he has honed his craft and to collaborate with him for this spring collection.”
The resulting menswear capsule combines the creative duo’s fascination with bold color palettes and reinterprets Louis Vuitton’s famous monogram with hand-drawn motifs as the “Craggy Monogram”.
“My main focus was to design things that I would always wear,” added Tyler, The Creator. “I dress the same way for a meeting as I do for a gig or a shopping trip, so the hand-drawn monogram felt like the perfect balance to me.”
The sportswear influence is combined with a preppy aesthetic, which comes in the form of golf references presented on fluffy grass-printed fleece jackets. Pastel yellow coats and wool aviators sit alongside monogrammed headpieces and aviators. Tailored blazers, cable-knit sweaters and pleated trousers add a touch of elegance to the collection. The capsule is rounded out with various golf accessories, such as turf-inspired club sets, protective covers and towels with Louis Vuitton’s Damier print.
