Two women die while trying to save dog from Italian mountain river | Abroad

The bodies of two Italian women were found on Thursday in a mountain area in the northern Italian region of Lombardy. The victims, aged 54 and 60, jumped into a stream of water near the Fellaria glacier on Wednesday to save their dog but did not survive, rescue services said.

The animal had fallen into a river in the high mountains near the Swiss border. The owners then went after the dog, but were dragged along by the strong current of the cold river, according to research. The dog would have fallen from a bridge into the water, according to a first construction.

Five rescuers from the Italian Mountain Rescue Service, which specializes in canyon rescue operations by helicopter, launched a search together with colleagues from the local emergency service in Malencotal. In the early hours of Thursday, they finally found the two bodies of the victims under a bridge near a dam.
