Two terror suspects of IS arrested in Breda and Eindhoven

The police arrested a couple in Brabant on Thursday on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack. The man is said to be a member of IS. This was announced by the Public Prosecution Service on Thursday morning. There were also arrests in Germany. Everything points to a terrorist network that was preparing attacks in Germany.

The man (29) is from Tajikistan and the woman (31) from Kyrgyzstan. They had been in the Netherlands since 2022. The AIVD came up with a tip and the police and judiciary took action. It is suspected that the man has been instructed to prepare an attack. “It was not yet concrete, but enough to take action,” the OM reports. The man was arrested in Eindhoven, the woman in Breda. Whether they lived there is unknown.

The pair will be arraigned in Rotterdam on Friday. They are under restrictions, which means they are only allowed to have contact with their lawyer and with the investigative team.

Germany
During the investigation, the Netherlands cooperated with the German authorities. The suspected man had contact with various people in western Germany. People were also arrested there on Thursday, seven suspects in total.

These are men from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. They traveled to Germany in the spring of 2022, according to the German public prosecutor’s office. They may have targeted targets in Germany and were trying to obtain weapons.
