Two raid McDonald’s Emmen, possibly shot fired

The police are looking for two boys around the age of sixteen who committed an armed robbery on Monday evening at the McDonald’s restaurant on Hoenderkamp in Emmen. According to the police, the two managed to get away with an unknown amount of money, after which they fled on foot through the back of the restaurant via De Hoge Loo and Eigenhaarweg.

The robbery took place around 10:20 p.m. The two walked into the restaurant wearing balaclavas, threatened the employees behind the counter with an unknown, black-colored weapon and demanded an amount of money from the cash register. “A shot was probably also fired,” says police spokesperson Kim Eissen, who cannot say exactly whether a shot was actually fired because it is not known what kind of weapon it is.

At the time of the robbery, several employees and restaurant visitors were present, who, according to the police, were unharmed. “After the two had received an amount of money, they left the restaurant through the back,” said Eissen. Shortly afterwards, a description of the two was distributed via a Burgernet report, on which one detail in particular stood out. “One of the robbers had a few shaved lines or cuts in one of his eyebrows,” says the police spokesman. “The robbers also have a white complexion. One was around 1.70 meters tall and the other around 1.85.”

Five police cars arrived at the McDonald’s branch after the robbery was reported, after which the area was cordoned off to investigate for traces. “The robbers may have thrown away their sports bags or balaclavas during their flight,” says Eissen, who hopes that camera images or witnesses can provide more clarity about the identity of the robbers.

Victim support has been offered for the employees of the McDonald’s restaurant and the visitors present.
