Two men from Roden (aged 23 and 26) who were suspected of assaulting a man from Leek have been acquitted. A third 25-year-old Roner will receive 60 hours of suspended community service. His stepfather (46) is sentenced to 120 hours community service.
The reason for the abuse was an incident in October 2021 during a car meeting in the parking lot of the Breed restaurant in Leek. In addition, the later victim from Leek would have thrown a beer bottle at the head of the mother of one of the suspects. That went wrong with the group of friends of the suspects from Roden.
Not long after the incident, the later victim received a phone call from an unknown person who announced that he could expect a visit. The victim, who lived at ‘t Zuden, went outside. “A good conversation never hurts,” he would later tell the police. To be on the safe side, he took a punch hammer and a crowbar outside. “That man is a temper frog who gets punched every week in the cafe,” said one of the suspects.
Indeed, not much later several cars arrived where men got out and beat up the man from Leek. Doctors later found that the man was completely bruised, but had nothing broken.
The son of the woman who got a beer bottle at her head, his stepfather and two friends had to answer for the assault on Thursday. The son and stepfather were not present.
Both friends denied to the judge that they had anything to do with the assault. Very special, according to the public prosecutor, since one of the suspects made a detailed statement to the police about his role in the assault shortly after the incident. In addition, several witnesses recognized the four suspects. Their cars would also have been seen at ‘t Zuden that evening. Nevertheless, the judge has doubts about the involvement of the two men.
The third suspect and his stepfather confessed after the brawl. In the sentence, the judge took into account the role that the Leekster played in the conflict.
