Two people rescued from sinking boat after collision with cargo ship on the Maas

A cargo ship and pleasure boat collided with each other on the Maas near Oijen on Saturday afternoon. That happened around a quarter past two. The pleasure boat has sunk. The two people who were on the pleasure boat were rescued from the water.

The sunken boat was a pleasure yacht about nine meters long. The two victims were examined in an ambulance, but did not need to be taken to hospital. On the side of the Maas, many people were watching the rescue on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services present in large numbers
The fire brigade and police were present in large numbers on both sides of the Meuse. A diving team had also come to the site of the collision. The situation was brought under control around a quarter past three and the emergency services scaled down. Police are investigating how the collision could have happened.
