Two people missing after devastating Colorado wildfires | Abroad

Two people have been reported missing in the US state of Colorado after wildfires destroyed hundreds of homes. The authorities announced this on Saturday.

Emergency services have received several alarming calls over the past few days. All but two people who are missing have been located, said Jennifer Churchill, a spokeswoman for the Boulder district emergency services. The search continues for them.

The wildfires were fueled by gusts of wind with speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. That made the fire extremely devastating. More than 500 houses have gone up in flames and thousands of people have been forced to flee. Boulder Sheriff Joe Pelle previously said it was a miracle that no one had died in the flames so far.

The spread of the fire was largely paralyzed by snow showers on Friday. Wildfires are more common in Colorado, but not usually at this time of year. The fires may have been caused by fallen power poles. The American state has been suffering from a major drought for years, which makes the subsoil extra flammable.
