The driver of an Audi with a Romanian license plate, who was driving from Velle towards Temse, deviated from his lane on Sunday evening in the bend just over the bridge. The car collided head-on with a BMW coming from the opposite direction.
The collision was particularly violent. The fire brigade had to free the driver of the Audi from his car. His life was in danger, just like the driver of the BMW. They were both taken to hospital. A passenger in the Audi was also seriously injured, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

An exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Excessive speed may have been the cause of the frontal collision. The Doornstraat was closed to all traffic for a long time.
The collision happened at the place where 16-year-old Francis Aerts was mowed off the road with his skateboard last year. The teenager died on August 1, 2022 after being hit by a driver who was under the influence of drink and drugs.
