Two million euros for the development of the Flemish Game Hub
HANGAR K, FLEGA and HOWESTDAE Studios are teaming up for the development of that Game Hub. The aim is to enable more game companies to start and grow successfully in Flanders.
The gaming sector is doing better and better, both in Flanders and worldwide. For example, the number of Belgian game companies increased from 65 to 84 between 2017 and 2020, the majority of which are active in Flanders. Games are also gaining importance worldwide: over the past four years, the global turnover of the games sector increased by 52 percent to almost 180 billion.
Nevertheless, the Flemish gaming sector is also confronted with a major ‘brain drain’. The brightest talents often go abroad to work in major game studios. Too few graduates with a game-oriented diploma choose to develop game and XR applications in their own country.
“If we want to play a pioneering role in the game industry with Flanders, it is crucial that we give young game talents the confidence to choose a role as an entrepreneur in Flanders and help existing companies grow. With the Flanders Game Hub we want to take a pioneering role in this”, say ministers Dalle and Brouns in a joint press release. The two CD&V ministers will release 2 million euros for a term of four years. The project will be presented in the spring of 2023.
