The second suspect, a 24-year-old Amsterdammer, had threatened to slaughter Wilders like a sheep on Instagram. The judge in The Hague also sentenced them both to a suspended prison sentence of one week. This happened during a thematic session on threats to politicians in the court in The Hague.
According to the public prosecutor, Wilders was very shocked by the injection needle, because there was blood on it and he did not know who it came from. He felt threatened by it, the officer said. “This package made a big impression on him.” The officer demanded three months in prison against the sender of the needle, of which one month was suspended.
Confused person
The man from Kreileroord was still on probation from a previous conviction, which is why he still has to carry out a community service of thirty hours. According to his lawyer, he is known as a confused person and is known to the authorities. The package also contained a letter asking for money. The judge regarded this as a request for help and acquitted the man of attempted extortion.
The 24-year-old suspect, who is a street coach in Amsterdam to keep young people on the right path, argued before the police judge that others had threatened Wilders on his Instagram account. “It was my account, but not my text,” he said. When Wilders received the threat in August 2020, the suspect was with family in Morocco. The judge did not believe that others would have broken into the account 600 kilometers away in the interior of Morocco, as the lawyer tried to demonstrate with login details.
Earlier during the theme session, community service of thirty to sixty hours was imposed for threatening Member of Parliament Farid Azarkan, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and The Hague municipal councilor Arnoud van Doorn.
