The police arrested two men this morning in the investigation into arson at De Boeten in Hollandscheveld in December last year. This concerns a 26-year-old man from Zaandam and a 29-year-old man from Amsterdam.
During the fire that broke out in a semi-detached house, a woman and her child barely managed to escape the fire. They were able to climb out through a window and were helped by bystanders.
The house was completely destroyed and surrounding houses were also severely damaged.
The police suspected from the start that the fire had been started. Witnesses had seen someone in dark clothing who may have thrown something inside and then ran away. One or more bangs were also heard.
The two suspects were arrested in Zaandam, they are under restrictions and are only allowed to talk to their lawyer.
The investigation into the arson is still ongoing. The police have not ruled out multiple arrests.
